President Biographies
This project has three parts: research, 5-paragraph biography, and presentation. Before you can begin to research, you need to plan out your essay by prewriting. Organize your prewriting by topic, main ideas, details, and supporting details.
Prewriting
Topic: President
Main Ideas: Before presidency, during presidency, and after presidency
Details: Support before, during, and after presidency
Supporting Details: SPECIFIC details that explain, elaborate, or provide examples of your details
Research
Organize your notebook in three sections: Before presidency, during presidency, and after presidency. Look for specific information about your three main ideas. You should be using your prewriting to help determine specific information you need for your biography. Don't forget...the more specific, the better!
Keep track of books and websites you are using while you research. You will be required to include a one-page bibliography that cites all sources you have used.
Ideas for research:
-Where from? Where born? When?
-Previous (before President) political experience and/or other job experience.
-Description of personality
-Any military service? War hero?
-Family, wife, children, etc.
-Campaign description
-How many terms?
-Major accomplishments when President. What known for?
-Any major scandals/problems in office?
-Which political party belonged to?
-What did he do after he left office?
-What did he do in his early years as a child and a young adult?
-Did he go to college? If so, what college did he graduate from and what did he study?
-What was his occupation before he was elected President?
